At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) we are dedicated to keeping our communities informed about opportunities to access health care.
As part of the Affordable Care Act, the state of Illinois expanded Medicaid programs to give even more people access to care and put an additional focus on care coordination.
This focus on coordination means patients connect with primary care providers who manage their treatment. It also helps people with complex medical needs navigate the health care system.
To help people understand the changes in government health care programs we have a team dedicated to engaging with and educating current and potential Medicaid members.
In 2015, this enthusiastic team participated in 340 community events, including:
- 23 back-to-school events where they distributed 2,500 school starter kits and 1,500 backpacks.
- Operation Warm. The team distributed information on managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and blood pressure at an event where 5,000 children who live in Chicago Housing Authority housing received free winter coats and hats.
- BCBSIL was presenting sponsor at WVON Radio’s Inaugural Care Givers Workshop and hosted a workshop for more than 500 attendees.
