Uplifting & Empowering
Maximizing health and wellness allows everyone to live to their fullest potential. At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL), we know that people are not defined by or limited by an illness or disability. We support many organizations and events that empower and uplift our neighbors and friends to be their best selves, including:
- Special Olympics Illinois – BCBSIL supports the Healthy Athletes Program, which provides 4,500 free health screenings to Special Olympic athletes, their coaches and families. We also helped send an athlete to the 2015 World Games and collaborate with Special Olympics on many other events.
- American Diabetes Association (ADA) – ADA’s Diabetes Expo is presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and held annually at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The Expo is a FREE one day educational event with health screenings, active living education, cooking demonstrations, product and service exhibitors, as well as workshops with a variety of leading health experts talking about diabetes and health management. In 2015, more than 14,000 people attended the event.
- ADA25 – We celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by sponsoring and hosting Chicago’s Inaugural Disability Inclusion Opportunity Summit. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel helped launch the summit which welcomed more than 275 community and business leaders. Featured speakers included U.S. Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth and U.S. Secretary of Labor Tom Perez.
